Airtel
has launched an excellent and reliable TV app for Android users. Pocket TV app
is a separate application that you should download on an Android phone or a tablet.
Dish TV too had introduced DishOnline as a separate application, but Airtel
really had no option, because MyAirtel is the app that also manages mobile accounts.
When you open the
app for the first time, you will need to sign-in with your Airtel Digital TV
customer ID or registered mobile number. Now it will take you to step 2, which
would ask you to type the One Time Password (OTP), Now Airtel will send you on
your registered mobile number as an SMS. Once it is done, the service will get
activated on your account, for your device. The same process should be repeated
on another device which you wish to set up with Pocket TV.
Reliability:
The
Airtel Pocket TV App is much reliable when you are using a Wi-Fi or a 3G connection
at a fair and moderate speed (say 100 KB), and the streaming quality is smooth.
Using this app anyway will be extremely good. Depending on the detected
bandwidth, the video quality is managed automatically.
When you are Streaming
on an 8Mbps Wi-Fi connection, it will be smooth. When you tap on a channel
icon, it will take around 3 seconds for the video streaming to start, and another
couple of seconds for the picture quality to adjust. You cannot find maximum
streaming bit-rate and the subsequent picture quality settings in Pocket TV. The
streaming quality would completely depend on signal strength and speed for 3G
users.
DISADVANTAGE:
Airtel offers150 channels on
the Pocket TV service and the cost of Rs 60 per month for Live TV streaming
service. Anyways, the Airtel Pocket TV is yet to develop a sports channel service
does not have any sports channel which is quite disappointing.
MOVIES:
Anyways, the Airtel Pocket TV
app offers a bunch of movies which is powered by BigFlix and the entire bunch of movies can be streamed
without any additional charge. For Rs 60 per month of Live TV streaming with
free bunch of movies in the on-demand section available, this can be the best.
SHOULD YOU SUBSCRIBE?
Quite frankly, this app offers a lot of convenience which makes your smartphone an alternative screen to view TV on. Since there are no HD channels yet, it keeps the bandwidth costs down. This App can help you at the times when you’re not allowed to watch the channels you’re willing to watch at home TV or when you’re traveling. This service is currently available for Android smartphones and tablets only, and if you are an Airtel Digital TV DTH subscriber, you can add on to the basic DTH package.
